Perched atop the grocery goodies in this morning's FreshDirect delivery was a booklet from the New York Public Library entitled "Roar!" The cover featured artwork depicting one of the famous lions that guard the Fifth Avenue entrance to the library (hence the title) and described the "Library Cubs Program" which raises funds for family programs that promote the importance of reading and libraries. It also had about two dozen pages that listed the huge variety of wonderfully interesting programs (including arts & crafts, chess, computers & technology, film, games, gaming, music, theater, plus, of course, literature & poetry, reading aloud, and story time) for kids ranging in age from birth to teenagers. Notably offerings include the science of fingerprint analysis, classes on "monsterology," and the music of Big Jeff DeSmedt. I am very impressed! And I hope to use the guide with my own darling children to keep them busy, entertained, and always learning.
