Beauty Buys

I'm always on the look-out for new beauty products that will make my life easier, make me look prettier, etc. So I think I'll start tracking what I buy and what catches my eye as something to try.

BB & CC Cream
  • Aveeno® Positively Radiant® CC Cream with SPF 30 (medium) -  supposed to provide natural looking coverage, while brightening and protecting, instantly enhancing skin’s natural radiance (purchased 10/14; I like it!)
  • Garnier Skin Renew Miracle Skin Perfector (light/medium) - supposed to control shine, minimize pores, even skin tone, hydrate with broad spectrum SPF 20 (purchased 6/14; results ok)
  • L'Oreal Visible Lift® CC Cream (light/medium) - multi-action cream to correct color and tone and over time, deliver 5 age-correcting actions (used summer 2014, ok as a light foundation but made skin shiny)
  • Maybelline New York Dream Fresh BB Balm - 2016 Allure Readers' Choice
  • Neutrogena Visibly Even BB Cream - supposed to brighten skin and minimize the look of discolorations, dark spots, blotchiness and blemish marks for flawless, even-looking skin in 4 weeks, with broad spectrum SPF 30 (to try)
Anti-Aging
  • Aveeno Positively Radiant Overnight Hydrating Facial - wake up to fresh, radiant skin
  • L'Oreal Collagen Moisture Filler - supposed to fill in lines/wrinkles and restore moisture for smoother, plumper skin (trying 4/2016)
  • L'Oreal Age Perfect® Glow Renewal Day/Night Cream - said to provide all-day hydration so that over time your skin feels firmer and a healthy glow is restored. Follow at night with L'Oreal Age Perfect® Glow Renewal Facial Oil (both to try)
  • Garnier Miracle Sleeping Cream - supposed to give you skin that looks refreshed, revitalized, smoother and firmer in just one week. Good Housekeeping seal. (to try)
  • Garnier Ultra-Lift Transformer Anti-Age Skin Corrector - advertised to work in 3 ways: instantly skin is smooth, luminous and even-toned; in 5 days skin feels firmer and the appearance of fine lines is minimized; in 4 weeks wrinkles are reduced and a more youthful look is restored (to try)
  • Mederma - has both a day gel with sunscreen and an overnight cream (both to try)
  • Lumene’s Bright Now Blur Line & Pore Minimizer ($20; ulta.com) is said to glide on like silk, doesn’t get gummy, and can also be used to blot out enlarged pores (to try)
  • Olay Regenerist Luminous Light Hydrating Lotion - plumps skin and helps lessen the look of brown spots
  • Olay Regenerist Micro-Sculpting Cream - 2016 Allure Readers' Choice $25
  • Olay Total Effects Feather Weight Moisturizer with SPF 15
  • Peter Thomas Roth Un-Wrinkle Night - won Prevention magazine's designation as best night cream, with testers finding improvements after 2 weeks.
  • Priori Smoothing Eye Serum - won Prevention magazine's designation as best eye cream, with comments like "genius" and "wonderful."
  • Roc Retinol Correxion Sensitive Night Cream - derm says "Retinol speeds up skin-cell turnover, boosts collagen production, and has anti-inflammatory properties, making it a powerhouse ingredient for treating wrinkles and acne."
  • RoC Skincare Retinol Correxion Deep Wrinkle Serum - 2016 Glamour Beauty Awards
  • SioBeauty.com offers patches that you wear overnight to reduce the look of wrinkles and loose skin

(purchased summer 2014; also 2016 Allure Readers' Choice and Good Housekeeping rated Regenerist products better than creams costing hundreds of dollars)

  • NYC Liquid Lipshine Lipgloss - LOVE IT! Especially in Rivington Rose. Use it by itself or over another color.
  • NYC Expert Last Lip Laquer - didn't like either either the pink or the red I tried; color was too intense and although it looked shiny at first, it was drying not moisturizing.
  • NYX Cosmetics Butter Gloss in Creme Brulee - 2016 Allure Readers' Choice and said to be non-sticky
  • Provocalips 16 hr Kissproof Lip Colour - supposed to last  and not transfer without being dry.
Blush
